Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Scheme Details

Launched on December 25, 2000, PMGSY aims to connect all unconnected villages across rural India. Managed by the Ministry of Rural Development with state governments, the scheme has progressed through three phases:

PMGSY Road Construction Phases

• Phase I: Initiated in 2000, it targeted villages with populations over 500 in plains and over 250 in hilly, tribal, and desert regions. It aimed to connect 1,35,436 lakh km of rural roads and upgrade 3.68 lakh km.

• Phase II: Launched in May 2013, this phase focused on upgrading roads from Phase I, covering an additional 50,000 km.

• Phase III: Approved in August 2018, Phase III emphasizes maintaining and upgrading roads from the previous phases, planning to cover 1,25,000 km with an estimated budget of Rs. 80,000 crore.
